A couple thoughts

There may have been much more to why Joan was chosen than what was
revealed in the final episode.  Just because God told her that she
would have to deal with this fellow (sorry forget his name), does not
explain why Joan was chosen over another individual.   We do not even
know if she was actually going to be tasked with
confronting/saving/redeeming this guy, or if confrontation was simply
inevitable.  God may have been aware of what the guy would do and that
he would pose a challenge to Joan, but that may not be why God spoke to
Joan.
