It's a combination of factors, not just the time slot. JOA dealt with
God and Heaven, GW deals with the Ghosts and the Afterlife, both shows
feature a relatively young female star -- the parallels are fairly
clear. I don't think this is an accident, CBS is trying to present
something that they view as thematically similar, but which they think
is somehow better tuned to their desired demographic.
So, yeah, I'm no mind reader, but in this case I think what's going on
in the head's of the executives is pretty obvious. GW is meant as a
replacement, but not exactly for the same audience per se. In fact,
they clearly want a different audience -- both bigger, and younger.
But it's meant to tune into the same interest, in Other-worldliness
and Spiritness and Mystical Possibilities, something like that.
It's like a network doing Star Trek, but then not being happy with the
ratings, so they come out with something that's still in outer space,
but more action-oriented, like Battlestar Galactica, or dopier, like
Lost In Space, because they have no friggin' idea that a Quality show
like Star Trek (some Star Trek, at least) might gain traction over
time -- not to mention that some things are worth doing just for the
sake of being art, as was JOA.... I'm going to start an "I Hate The
Suits Club."
