But of course, you've managed to display such a reasoned approach, without
ad hominem attacks.

Up to a point. That point does not include acquiescing to such a country
as
France, whose own financial and power-brokering agendas make it anything
but
an objective critic. Its position as "ally" with the U.S. has been pretty
one-sided since its inception, with our bailing them out of anhillation,
and
a continuum of ingratitude and arrogance from them since then. Don't
forget
that prior to our entry into Iraq, most of the UN member nations
promulgated
a belief that WMDs existed in Iraq; the controversy was not over their
existence, just how to react to it.

I don't agree with many of our policies, past and present, but every
country
acts in its own self-interest. It's just that unlike some of the other
countries, we have the economic and military power to assert and project
that self-interest. Can you really say with any credibility that any
other
nation who had our power and reach would have treated it as benignly as
we?
How about Iran? North Korea? Iraq? Syria? Your country?
Since 9/11, many in this country have decided that if we have to choose
between being attacked in such a magnitude, then being proactive, yes,
pre-emptive, about our defense or being a little less hated around the
world, we will opt for security.

Perhaps, but we will see to it that those who attack us will get what they
deserve; I'd still rather be us.
