The original idea (or one of them) for the movie that was floating
around was to have Michael Knight and the original KITT as the leaders
of a new team of two young Knight Riders (one of course HAD to be
female) and their own new cars ... which kind of makes a mockery of the
"ONE man can make a difference" premise of the show, and brings it into
dangerously similar territory to the awful Team Knight Rider.

KITT's body shell is of course virtually indestructible, so there's
every possiblity that it could easily survive and look the same many
years later. Plus that model of car is still a very good looking car,
arguably better looking than anything they make these days or any of
the weird-looking concept designs we see for "future" models.

The same can be said of human's. No doubt once brain transplants are
fully possible that issue will have to be dealt with (although the face
transplant surgery has already started it).

The same could also (almost) be said of computer-generated versions of
old actors.
