Wasn't it about getting Michael and Kitt back out of retirement
because things had gone downhill again and they needed him to return
to duty for "one last mission"? That sounds pretty much the same as
you described.

And giving it some thought, yeah you're right, it *has* been done
before.. Rambo II+, Rocky IV, Commando, Under Siege, Die Hard,
Demolition Man.. all variations on the retired-then-reinstated theme.

heh!

I thought it was a bold move, but I also thought it was bold for the
sake of it rather than adding anything to the film.

If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it. What you'd end up
with is a crap car that goes well in a straight line but can be caught
up by the Ford Focus on the corners! The Koenigsegg is the fastest car
around the Top Gear track:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/powerlaps.shtml

and that track doesn't have too many long straights. It's an awesome
car.

Of course it was and I wasn't suggesting otherwise. I was only saying
that *if* the film was set in the present or near future, then having
a car from the 80s would be bizarre.

That is essentially the point. It was set in present day and the Trans
Am was a current car of *that* present day and therefore made sense.
If the film is also set in present day (ie, 2006), then again they'd
have to pick a car from the present day, not from 25 years ago.

Imagine if they'd chosen a 25 year old car in 1982, KITT would have
been something from 1957, and how stupid would that have looked?

Only just? The technologies you mention:

take
>for granted in all the modern day cars.

have all been around for decades and these days I'd expect to get most
of that even on 'poverty spec' cars. You even get technologies as
standard in cars these days that were the 'fantasy' features from
KITT, such as voice control, radar controlled cruise, external camera
screens, sat nav etc..

>This car is in mint condition. Its even got a galvonised Steel shasi.

Wow, that took me a while to figure out! You mean "chassis"!
