I would tend to believe this is simply rumoured rubbish since the
Knight Rider production crew already knew Arnett had done voice-overs
for various adverts, including cars.

BUT, unfortunately most people are incredibly stupid and it would not
surprise me in the least if some idiot at General Motors or Ford kicked
up a fuss about it.  :-(
