Pakistan is predominantly Muslim - that's why it exists as a separate
country from India (primarily Hindu), created specifically to give the
Indian Muslims a homeland.  But that was over half a century ago, so
there are no doubt now people of many religions residing there, albeit
much in the minority.   

Even if Elena is Pakistani Muslim by birth, her apparent long exposure
to 'western' culture may have significantly diminished her commitment to
the practices of the religion.
