Well to quote Chloe, he suffers from "premature combustion".....
heat-rays come out of his eyes when he gets excited. (Yeah silly but
that's the show's established history.) So Clark has not yet learned
to control his excitement, and he is justified to be worried he might
set his lover on fire.
(Although he did successfully mate with Aleisha. Hmmm. Inconsistency
in the show's plotline?)
