I agree with you there are radically different Whitneys, but the first
guy would have been scoring Lana, no question.

Yeah, it became clear that he wasn't trying to save her at all, he was
just trying to get the rock. Certainly that's what SHE thought,
although she seems to have conveniently forgotten it.
