No need for Lex to frighten her any more. She was in a bad state anyway.

For all its weakness, the season 4 writing looks like it should have the
Nobel Prize for literature compared to season 5. Season 4 had a season
long
arc--stones, ancient kryptonian artifacts and history, Kal-el, Lois in
Crusade and ended with the uniting of the stones and creation of the
Fortress where Jor-el hopes Clark will become Kal-el. There of course
were
some side plots like Lionel's trial and prison and his revenge, Clark's
football adventures and of course the alluring Alicia. I didn't mind
these
side trips that developed Clark's character.
Season 5 had the invasion of Kryptonians--dispersed immediately--and
Brainiac, that was a mystery at first and then a threat for a few
episodes--then Jonathan's senate and his death--Lionel pining for Martha
and
wanting to mentor Clark--Lexmas of what can come--Cyborg and Vampires that
related to nothing--Lionel and Martha in a trap to get them close
together--Terminator metal guy--Angel--Aquaman and Zod. For Pete's sake
what a hodgepodge. If anything it was just a homage to other superheroes
and villains with no fracking connection to anything. Brainiac is the
threat in the beginning of the season and we end with Zod in Lex on a
rampage. And speaking of one character inside another we had Jor-el in
Lionel, Brainiac in Jonathan and a dead girl in Chloe. (Previous season
we
had Dawn stiles in several people and witches in three girls, Clark in
Lionel and Lionel in Clark) Clark is still running around in Flannel,
Chloe
pines for Clark, Lana pines for Clark, Lois is gone and so they made no
headway with the 22 episodes except for killing off one of the best actors
on the show. Not only that, the writing was seriously twisted to make all
these things work--time travel--dreams--psychotic episodes--computer
infections. Needless to say I think 5 was a pile of Kryptonite road
apples.

Yes, and Lionel at that point said that the stones "belonged to Lana" and
not to Lex. That's why he had Lana go to China--knowing she had some kind
of power and connection to the stones. Lionel had yet to be downloaded
with
the Kryptonian programming. Lionel's cleaning up of Lana's apartment
after
the murder of Genevieve meant that he had his men shadowing Lana or
Genevieve or both.
It may not have been evil--just his way to manipulate Lex into having Lex
give him the stones. Would he have given them to Lana? We don't know.
After his download he would have certainly given them to Clark. Lionel
poisoned Genevieve to get the transference stone back and then Lionel and
Lex were kidnapped by the Teagues to retrieve it. However Lionel was
willing to die to keep it--and denied having the stone even to Lex.

All the time keeping them close. Lana's complaints of Clark's lies only
added info to the lies that Clark told Lex. How many times in season two
or
three did Lex roll his eyes when Clark told him a lie? Many times. Lex
knows there is a secret and he is just being patient--maybe hoping at some
time Clark will come forward. He wouldn't do this with anyone else
because
Clark has saved his life several times.
