Fair evaluation. I think the main weakness of season 5 was letting the
Fine story drop and adding all those filler episodes until the Finale.
That caused it to lose a lot of momentum (considerable time had
elapsed). Both Season 4 and 5 started off interesting.
Season 4 lost a lot of momentum (IMO) when it became apparent that
Isabelle was a nonfactor in the story, and we were subjected to
watching lame conversations with Dr Quinn and Lex weekly. Also, the way
Clark had Kal-El removed was unbelievably cheesy. (I expect something
just as cheesey to resolve all last season's cliffhangers).

Season 4 had it's share of bad fillers as well. Weren't we treated to
fast growing boy and some other duds? I forget if Lucy was season 3 or
4 (as well as some other episodes, as they were truly forgettable).

Both the stone story and the Fine story were very interesting at first,
but then seemed to drag out too long, because they wanted to milk them
for the finale.

Ok, how did anyone other than Jason know that Lana had the stone? Was
Lionel there when Lana stabbed Dr. Quinn with it? I don't remember. In
any event, it just seemed odd that Lionel would use some teenagers to
do his treasure hunting in China. Why not just let Lex find it and get
it from him? Or partner with Lex? I guess it bothers me that his
personality changed back to evil for a couple episodes at the end,
after they spent all that time proving that Clark's spirit healed him
or whatever.

Didn't he also poison Dr Quinn to stop her from threatening Lex? I
thought that was part of the conversation as well, but maybe I'm
remembering wrong.

I just wonder why Lex still cares about the secret at this point. He's
seen Clark display superstrength many times, and then gets dumbed down.
He ignores other blatant evidence. It really hurts the credibility of
the show when he blows off Blantant evidence of Clark's secret when
he's supposedly obsessed with it. That's why I think they should've
dropped that storyline a long time ago. Just have Lex (and Lana) in
season 3 figure out that Clark is a meteror freak with superstrength
and speed, and leave it at that. Something like that is not uncommon in
Smallville.
