IMHO, the LIS "story" is a story that's open to a lot of
interpretations.
Who made the rule that more of these interpretations can't be
explored
successfully and profitably?
No, that story won't die out until it actually happens one day far in
the future.

One has to put into context the original LIS.
At the time, the US was headed to the moon.
A very exciting time, full of hope, steadfast deterimination, unknown
variables
and new technologies.

In LIS, it's off to the nearest star, but within a somewhat reasonably
known
theoretical understanding of science.
The first episode was extremely exciting and powerful motivating
forces
for the average person sitting home watching it.
It was almost as if it were really happening.

Even on your fine Web site http://www.Jup2.com
I believe you have a
link to the original sound effect of the Jupiter 2 engines reving up
to full power.
Awesome sound effect...1st rate, doesn't get any better anywhere, pure
genius
at work there.
Again, something people can relate to if they've ever flew on any
airliner or
otherwise been around jet aircraft.
Very believable.

The whole key is believability, which was the slow spiral downfall of
the
original series.

In my amatuer treatment of LIS, I made the charactors 3 couples,
The Robinsons - mid 40 yr. olds, scientists.
the 'Major' West's - mid 30 yr. olds, military flight officers.
the Robinson's son and wife - mid 20 yr. olds, science technicians.

The idea in a nutshell, is that they will populate another planet
once they get there by a (what I call) a Jupiter 4 that looks like the
original
J2, but has 4 decks (app. 60' feet tall and 195' wide).
Furthermore, it wouldn't be all about the Robinsons or the J2, but
what's
going on back at Alpha Control, exploring past memories, overcoming
obstacles,
etc. etc. etc. etc.
Unlike the 1 episode liftoff of J2, the "J4" liftoff might be 5 or 6
episodes long,
or even almost the whole first season,
just to build story line, charactor outlines and dramatic effect.

Things that better reflect the reality of such an endevor, much in the
spirit of the
very well written book "Contact" by Carl Sagan.
