Alright, here's what I think...for now. The island can and does allow
people to come back from the dead(maybe because they're already
dead). Look at Desmond, he should have been blown to kingdom come.
Instead his clothes are simply blown off. The flaws in this theory
are Libby, Anna Lucia, Ecko, etc. But perhaps it all ties in with the
choices they make or what they can do for the island. Desmond
prevents the doomsday device whatever you want to call it. Charlie
tries to warn everyone with his dying breathe. And what about the
Others. Remember the first Other Benry talks to as a boy? He's also
the one who interviews Julia in the States and is the one who talks to
Locke. He hasn't aged at all. What would prevent someone from
aging? Being dead and having a magic island keep you alive might
help. So if this Other can interview Julia to get her to come to
island why can't a dead Charlie go to L.A. to visit Hugo? (Doesn't
explain the bizarre scene with Hugo in the police station but still)
Also the man that visits Hugo in the hospital asks him "Are there any
still alive?" So I think the secret is that when they get rescued the
Oceanic 6 pretend they are the only ones alive. Probably has
something to do with who they get "rescued" by. For some reason we
know they are found by bad people pretending to help them. Or so we
are lead to believe. So the man visiting Hugo must have some sinister
reasons why he wants to know if any are still alive. I wonder what
they could be?
(And what's so special about the survivors of the crash, not just the
Oceanic 6 but of the ones who survived the initial crash? Why are
they alive while others died in the horrible crash that should have
killed them all?)
