Since the team was handpicked, I think we should look at their
abilities as clues about the nature of the island.  An excellent pilot
was required because arriving on the island was known to be a
difficult and bumpy ride.  An anthropologist was chosen because the
island probably has a long history of human occupation that merits
study, and possibly it's already known to have unusual aging
properties.  A physicist was chosen because there's obviously
something physically different about the island than the outside
world, and that also merits scientific scrutiny.  The anomaly alone
would call for a physicist. Most interesting of all is the ghost
whisperer, which reinforces the idea that ghosts are likely to be
found on the island.

We also know that at least two members of the team (Frank and
Charlotte) have some kind of  prior connection to the island or flight
815.  And Daniel was deeply affected by the discovery of the wreckage,
so something is going on with him as well.  We'll likely discover that
Miles also has a prior connection.
