With such a large number of fantasy/SF fans also being LOST fans I'm
surprised this hasn't been mentioned before, but a quick Google of both
the web and usenet suggests it hasn't.
"Abaddon" is one of the names used to refer to Marc Remillard, a
character in Julian May's "Saga Of Pliocene Exile" and "Galactic Milieu"
series of novels. The character has a number of interesting traits that
may or may not bear comparison with certain characters and elements of
the LOST mythos.
* He is strongly gifted with 'metapsychic' abilities,
including mind-to-mind communications and mind manipulation, the
casting of mental illusions, physical manipulation of reality at
the molecular level and, ultimately, tele****tation.
* He leads a rebellion in which he attempts to overthrow
an established government and install Humans (or, more
specifically, psychically gifted super-Humans) as rulers. His
ultimate goal is a eugenics program at the end of which humanity
will transcend the need for physical bodies. The failed
rebellion results in the deaths of billions of innocents, and
the escape of the remaining rebels through a time ****tal seven
million years into Earth's past.
* Due to a quirk of genetics he is able to self-rejuvenate
and is therefore more or less immortal. For most of his scenes
in the earlier novels he has the physical appearance of a man in
his forties, although he is chronologically much older.
Further, after travelling seven million years into his
past by means of the time ****tal, he lives for seven million
years (transforming into an ethereal entity along the way) and
is then instrumental in guiding the destinies of his family and
his earlier cor****eal self such that history plays out as he
remembered.
I leave it as an exercise for the reader to decide which of these traits
can be paralleled with lost characters or events. There are a few
interpretations :)
There's much more than this but, despite "Exiles" being my favourite
series of books, it's a good ten years since I've read any of them so my
recollection of detail is sketchy at best. I'm sure someone with a
better memory than mine will be able to elaborate. And for any genre
fans who haven't read them yet, they are highly recommended.

The usual LOST caveats apply. All of the above may be nothing more than
coincidence. But with "Abaddon" being a name you don't stumble across
very often, I thought some of the parallels were interesting.
