I just watched episode 401, the black man went to the mental institute want
to upgrade him to a better hospital, he also asked Hurley the question,
"Are
they still alive?"
This reminds me of the life cycle according to Chinese philosophy. They
think life cycle has 12 stages. Physical death is only in the middle of
the
life cycle because after that, spirit is still alive. life ends when
spirit
is diminished. They are something like this:
Stage 1 Birth of a life.
Stage 2 Youth.
Stage 3 Getting strong physically.
Stage 4 Getting old.
Stage 5 Getting weak.
Stage 6 Getting sick.
Stage 7 Physical death.
Stage 8 Spirit is young.
Stage 9 Spirit is strong.
Stage 10 Spirit getting weak.
Stage 11 Spirit is almost paralyzed.
Stage 12 Spirit diminished.
Maybe Losties are just discovering something in the nature that people
hardly notice. Maybe Jacob is a supernatural boss that organizes wandering
spirits to do his bidding. Maybe Ben's dead mother told him most of the
nature about Jacob. Maybe Ben decides to hook up with Jacob. Maybe Dharma
Initiative is a scientist organization that their members know the nature
of
Jacob and try to control the situation. Maybe Dharma has succeeded in
their
mission and the island is the prison for Jacob until Ben released it and
Losties happened to be in the middle of the new conflict.
OK. Back to the black man's question. For those Losties died, his
organization (new Dharma/ Use Oceanic Airline as the cover) would like to
abolish their spirits, too, because they are contaminated in the island.
But
it is clear that Charlie's spirit escaped and is still alive.
