"I saw a cow."

There has to some significance to the pilot telling Miles, "I saw a
cow."

That can't be just a throw-away line!  It was as if he was telling
Miles something that could explain what was occuring, like it was some
expected result of a known experiment (Ex. seeing a horse in the
jungle (Kate) means ... x; seeing a cow (pilot) means ... y).

What do you guys think of that?
