I can't claim credit for this theory (I heard it on a podcast before
looking it up on Lostpedia) but since Google Groups shows no messages
here containing "vile vortices" I figured some of you may not have heard
of it either:
http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Vile_Vortices
For what it's worth, of all the theories and explanations that have been
flying around since this show started, this is the one that feels the
most convincing to me.
I don't personally buy any of the New Age mysticism to which it
subscribes, but for the purposes of LOST -- which is so chock full of
mysticism that you have to accept it -- I can't deny the overwhelming
correlation between the locations of these 'vortices' and areas where
mysterious things have happened on the show, particularly with regard to
vessels and aircraft disappearing.
If this turns out to be coincidence, I'll be stunned.
