They've certainly shown things out of sequence before, but I think if
Avellino was Elsa's boss, he would have known what Sayid looked like,
and would have known Sayid was coming after him. Since Avellino
seemed totally surprised, the flashbacks were probably shown in
chronological order. Avellino was killed prior to Sayid meeting Elsa.

I've just re-read every post in this thread to see where you came up with
the name Avellino and I don't see it anywhere. Anyway it appears that
Avellino was the guy on the golf course, right? I agree that he was shot
before the Else encounter, and also don't think he was Else' boss.
