If the travel to and from the island can cause major interruptions in the

human consciousness, why limit the interruptions to just the human mind?

We saw in season 3 that the island causes or at least sets up an
environment for the alteration in human reproduction processes.

What if the island alters in some way, the human genome?

Are we assuming that 'growth issues' is just a height or an aging
reference?

I didn't see Desmond or Sayid turn into a giant when they got off the
helicopter.
Ben probably has been on and off the island several times, and he is not a

tall or an old man.

Could the growth be internal? Could the growth be a mutation of the
genome?

Hey the island men already have an over abundance of sperm.
I say at least give some of the losties an extra chromosome!

(before this series is over I want to see at least one Lost character
sprouting horns, and I don't include the cow in that list :)
