OK here are some theories.
These are from down under, where we've only seen 4(?) episodes;
the last one was with Sayid assassinating a golfer and being shot.
Probably since then, some episodes have destroyed or confirmed
these theories, but I haven't looked ahead in the group posts yet.
Theory 1:
========
The Aaron that Kate's looking after, is actually Claire's Aaron;
Claire didn't make it off the island, either she was killed or
snatched back at the last moment, but she shoved Aaron onto Kate
to look after before she (as she thought) went to her death.
The conversation between Kate and Claire where Kate claimed to be
useless with babies, but Claire said she thought she would have
been too, was a giveaway to this scenario, in retrospect.
Furthermore, this could well explain Jack's fall from rationality.
The means whereby Claire got killed/snatched-back would have been
mainly Jack's fault, at least in his own eyes. This may not have
bothered him at first; BUT, I think maybe he found out after
re-joining his hospital careeer, that Claire was his half-sister,
and thus Aaron his half-nephew, and that he has just condemened
his half-nephew to a life of motherlessness. This realization
tipped him over the edge, to drugginess. Jack's being at fault
for the baby's orphanhood might also explain why Kate noted that
"Jack wouldn't want to see the baby".
Finally, how did he find out about his half-relations?
It seems to me that this could be due to a re-apparition of his Dad!
We have seen the Losties CAN get these sendings, back in our world.
So it could be that Jack's dad is coming back (in visions) to let
him know, maybe to try to steer him back to the island. This could
also explain Jack's much-discussed remark that "his father was
even drunker upstairs". Maybe he'd just had yet another vision,
rather like Hamlet's father's ghost! - hurrying him up some more.
Theory 2
========
The guy in the coffin is Michael. It's a black neighborhood,
and he was stated to have left a teenage son. Nothing new here yet.
BUT - how come the coffin was so short? My answer - Michael's legs
had been amputated! Maybe this resulted from some armed punch-up
on the freighter or elswhere, perhaps while protecting Walt.
This would give some audience closure on why such a killer had
been allowed to get away. Protecting Walt in a fight would redeem
him somewhat, and having to continue through life without legs,
would be some karma for his killings.
Finally, with Ben in hiding, and Kate happy to stay in the world,
and Hurley in the nut-house, Jack would have realised that Mike
was the only other person with any idea how to get off of,
thus maybe back to, the island. As he is desparate now to return,
(see theory 1), the death of Michael and his knowledge would
finally have flipped him to suicide.
Theory 3
========
Just a minor one. The Oceanic 6 may have concocted a story about
how Kate heroically saved them after the wreck, so as to give her
some leverage in her inevitable trial. This ultimately happened,
when Jack testified. Not sure how this ties in with Jacks' own
fake aleged heroism, ("that guy's been a hero twice over!")
______________
Well, there they are, if you can shoot them down or whatever,
without revealing what happens after the Sayid-gets-shot episode,
please do so!
-- Bill of goods.
