That car's been a part of his life since he was a kid, so he definitely
has ties to it.
And as I mention elsewhere, the Hurley character was one of the first
ones fleshed out by the writers. It could be coincidence, or it could
be that, from the very beginning, Hurley was going to be a focal point
in the bigger picture even if he's largely (no pun intended) comic
relief on a weekly basis. In short, I wouldn't be at all surprised to
learn that there is much more to Hurley than meets the eye at this time.
