From the local TV Guide ...
Loved and Lost
--------------
Elizabeth Mitchell joined the cast of the hit drama series
Lost last season as the mysterious Juliet Burke, one of
the Others who developed a special relation****p with Jack
(Matthew Fox). The 38-year-old actress says viewers should
expect plenty more shocks and surprises.
TV Guide: What do you think about what's in store this
year?
Elizabeth: There are some huge dramatic moments coming up.
You'll find out who survives and who doesn't after they
get off the island. I cried the other day when I read a
new script because someone died ... It is fascinating to
learn things about people you've become invested with.
TV Guide: Is it hard to keep the secrets?
Elizabeth: Yeah, last year I was terrified to say anything,
even to my husband, because I was new and didn't want to be
blamed for leaking stories. But then I found out I was the
only one who didn't tell their spouse, which my husband
points out to me daily. So now I tell him a bit more. My
parents would prefer not to know anyway although they do
want to know if I'm going to die - but I wouldn't tell them
that even if I knew.
TV Guide: Do you worry about being killed off?
Elizabeth: I don't live in fear. I'm sad when people go.
I was very sad when Dominic Monaghan (Charlie) left but I
wasn't walking around thinking that I might die because I
figure I probably will, so I might as well enjoy it while
it lasts!
TV Guide: What do you think of the flash forwards? Will we
see more?
Elizabeth: Yes, there are ore flash forwards and that
might really intrigue the audience because while the
flashbacks are interesting, so many things are answered
this season with the flash forwards.
TV Guide: What else can you tell us about your character
this season?
Elizabeth: Juliet is still the same person but a little
bit harder and there is also the possibility of rescue
because we know that someone or something might be coming,
so that seems to be her overall focus and goal now. She is
leaning towards being the hero but she's slightly odd with
what she might be intending, so that's fun to play.
TV Guide: Who do you want to see as a couple - Jack and
Kate or Jack and Juliet?
Elizabeth: Well I have my allegiances, of course! I have
to say that it's far more intriguing when people you like
are kept apart and you're left wondering if they'll get
together. There are some satisfying moments romantically
this season. There are some interesting choices and things
that surprised me. There is also stuff that Evangeline
(Kate) has found really satisfying. We'll have to see if
other people like it too.
TV Guide: How does it feel to know there is a definite end
to the show?
Elizabeth: I think our writers are so excited about it is
nice for all of us to know there is a beginning, a middle
and an end. To know it doesn't go on forever and that
people get all the answers they hope for before a show
goes off the air, that is all anybody can hope for. It
also helps keep the quality of the show up all the way
through.
TV Guide: What do you think of the fan feedback?
Elizabeth: The writers listen to everybody ... going to
the various websites created by fans and having a
dialogue about what is happening. Unlike many shows, the
writers are interested in what fans think.
TV Guide: What do you think keeps audiences watching Lost?
Elizabeth: The characters are complex and have so many
dimensions but at the same time you identify with them.
