I've heard various criticisms about the technical advice
the writers/directors have received, relating to helicopters,
criminal trials etc. No doubt all justified, but there's one
thing I haven't seen commented, but which they got
pretty "right".
In the episode "The Constant", I noticed that one of
the diagrams on Daniel's Oxford blackboard, was
a fairly standard diagram of a 2-trench "potential well",
a kind of curvy-W-shaped graph, illustrating that
a particle (or person) can be stuck in one of the
trenches, without enough "energy" to climb the barrier
in between, but able occasionally by "quantum magic"
to suddenly transfer from one to the other spontaneously.
This is, OC, exactly what the time-unstucked were doing,
Desmond, Minkowski, the rat, et al. It was nice to see it
illustrated (albeit briefly and obliquely) in Daniel's thinking.
