I agree... As I said in another post, I think the Captain is telling
Sayid and Desmond this BS, to help formulate a plausible explanation for
their reappearance in the real world.

Using the lack of a wedding ring as proof that the jet was faked, is
about as lame as it could possibly get.  ...I'm surprised the Oceanic
