Hey..my new LOST theory of the week!
What if... once you live on Craphole island and/ or the Island accepts
you, you cannot die, except on Craphole island. Only when the Island
gives you up, will you be able to die in peace. You can leave the
island, but you can never be at peace. You will always live a
lingering, complacent life.
Imagine eternal life, without rest. Complacency without ambition.
And you have to get the Island to let you go... somehow. Maybe a
special gas, produced only on the Island is the key to a peaceful
death. Without it, you will live a very long, complacent life. Maybe a
special person has the ability to kill you... a person who has lived
on the island, a charge or agent of the Island, like... ummm... Sayid?
Perhaps the whispers are just people who yearn to be let go, but
cannot "not-exist." Doomed to live on and watch. Looking for someone
to come and free them from life never-ending. maybe these are the
people who went crazy, tried to kill themselves without the Island's
"okay." and exist between time to watch.
Charlie, when he appeared to Hurley, in that FlashForward, admitted
that, Yes, he died, but he didn't seem all that shook up about it. He
was some (in)cor****al ghost wandering around. Mikhail is (was) a good
example of someone that just won't die.
And, maybe it's just certain people who are given this ability to not-
be-able to die. And others can have the ability to kill them, release
them from the grip of the Island. Maybe if you were on a list, that
you were "good" you can be one that can control the destiny of others,
and those not on the list... well maybe they are cursed to suffer ever-
lingering life. Or visa-versa.
Now some people, people of money and power, might want to live
forever, because they are people of money and power. While others, are
just down-and-out, living each day, worse than the one before it,
longing to be released from a life of near non-existance. Needing to
return to the Island to find freedom.
And there are people who just aren't right for the Gift (or Curse) of
the Island. These people can't take the burden of whatever the Island
is doing to them. They go crazy and destroy themselves... and others.
Hmmm... is this sounding too much like Pirates of the Caribbean; The
Curse of the Black Pearl/Dead Man's Chest?
