I tried a search and haven't seen this addressed, but maybe I missed
it.
When Minkowski brought Michael to the phone, he casually addressed
Michael as "captain;" I don't recall his exact words, but it was
something like, "Take your time, captain," or "Here's how you work the
phone, captain." Earlier, on the island, Desmond spoke to Hugo about
Locke's speech before it happened; could Minkowski have been
addressing Michael as "Captain" because that's what Michael will
become? I know that Minkowski is dead and therefore theoretically
couldn't flash forward to a time when Michael is captain, but could he
have seen it in a tangential future? After all, Daniel's mouse died
before he actually got a chance to teach it the maze, which implies
that the future or the past can be altered.
