The way Lost works is a constant flipping of Friend & Foe.
Jack's the Sensible Leader, until, all of a sudden Mystic Locke might
have a point that Jack is missing.
then we meet Ben, who tell us he's Henry Gale, and is later exposed as
the head Other.
Desmond was considered a foe, and he became more of a friend.
The flashbacks constantly make us re*****s who these people are, and
why they did what they did. For any given character, it's like the
Russian Matryoshka dolls, with Friend inside of Foe, inside of Friend
inside of Foe.
So, that makes me think at some point, maybe the Big Bad Widmore will
be exposed as a friend in some way.
The ultimate flip (at this point, anyway) is of course if Penny's Evil
Dad is revealed to be working for the Good.
