I'm not too lazy right now. A shot from such a distance would've had
considerable velocity. If somehow the bullet had lodged in the bottle
(not likely, and also not visible, but anyway), it would've xferred
its momentum to it and knocked it out of Karl's hand, or at least
caused his hand to move. Otherwise, it would've continued thru the
opposite wall of the bottle, producing a 2nd hole and a 2nd visible
leak.

No way. The makers of "Lost" wouldn't even have done this water
bottle trick if we weren't intended to catch the fakery. Alex is
being set up by Benry, Rousseau, and Karl. They wanted her to think
she was in mortal danger.
