Good point, I am wondering if Widmore and Ben both have some
foreknowledge of potential future events, and they are at odds over
the Island. In that case it would make sense for a Good Widmore to
act like a dick to Desmond, to goad him into the boat race.
This is probably wrong, but I wonder if maybe the Island is
essentially bad or evil, and Widmore's purpose in trying to find the
Island to basically nuke it, and this would be for the good of
mankind. And Ben is aligned with the Island's bad intentions. In
that sense it would make sense to kill everyone on the Island because
it seems like it's possible you take a "piece" of it with you when you
leave.
