There is at least one valid shout-out to Star Trek: In the Season 3
premiere "A Tale of Two Cities," Jack awakens to find himself in a cage
behind a transparent partition. In comes Juliet, a blonde woman, who
has been sent to try to win over Jack. They have some adventures
together (like nearly drowning when he opens the door and water floods
in) which begins that bonding process.
That whole business was known to be a shout-out to the scenes with Pike
and Vina in the Star Trek episodes "The Cage" and "The Menagerie".
Perhaps this got written into Lost because by this time, Abrams had
agreed to do the next Star Trek movie, which is in production and
planned to be released in May 2009.
