Dominic Monaghan is 5' 7", which is about the same height as Tom Cruise.

Alan Ladd, a famous "leading man" movie star ("Shane"), was only 5' 5" 
tall.  There's a famous incident in which his co-star in one movie, 
Sophia Loren, had to stand in a trench so she wouldn't look taller than
him.

And then, of course, there's Peter Dinklage, who's very short (4' 5").

In general, the actresses may wear flats (or even be barefoot out of the 
camera frame) instead of high heeled shoes, to make them look shorter.
