Back when I was in the Navy, we used to play Risk all the time with my
LPO, 
who was a Risk fanatic, and he used to say that "Australia is the key to 
the whole game", too. He had this maneuver called the Australian Crawl, 
where he'd start in Australia, and move out, one country at a time, until 
he had all of Europe.

He *never* lost. Even when there were a bunch of us playing, and we had
all 
agreed to take him out...he still won.
