Wrong on both counts.  In backgammon, a strong endgame strategy is 
critical, and a knowledge of dice roll odds (and an ability to apply 
that to the board's current status with each play decision) is key 
throughout, just for starters.  And poker is a lot more than just the 
cards you're dealt.  But that's a novel in and of itself.
