There is usually a good reason why people get sick on the island.
Sawyer was sick after he got shot, but he got better.

Ben developed a tumour and then a spinal surgeon crashed on the
island. Locke lost his miraculous ability to walk for a short time but
got it back again. He seemed to think that it was because he wasn't
doing the right thing at the time and the island was puni****ng him.

Now Jack is sick, maybe it's because he's doing the wrong thing.
