Rose is a woman of faith, just like Locke is a man of faith.  (Remember 
that she had faith that her husband was alive, even though he had been 
in the tail section that broke off in midair.)

Maybe that's why the island favored the both of them and healed the both 
of them.

There is some good in both Jack and Sawyer.  But neither is a man of 
faith.  Maybe that's why the island failed to heal them.
