Since we're supposed to find out who's in the coffin by the end of
this season, I thought I'd bring up the following information again.
It's been a while since it was discussed.

Keeping in mind that the deatails of the newspaper story may be
changed by the producers, some of the original article was
decipherable through screencaps. (See
http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Newspap=
er_clipping
) More was posted on the Fuselage by someone suspected of working on
the show. While it can't be verified as canon, the suggested full
name of the deceased does fit with what was shown onscreen. The
clipping shows Jo ~*~ antham. The poster at the Fuselage fills that
in as John Lantham, and then goes on to state that article later
misspells the last name as Latham.

If this is just speculation, the poster hit on a couple of remarkable
coincidences. There are two notable John Lathams whose lives seem to
fit in with things we know about Michael and Walt.

The first is an artist who came up with a theory of time known as Flat
Time ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Latham_%28artist%29
):

"Perhaps the culmination of Latham's fusion of art, science and
sociology was the concept of Flat Time. In its most basic form, it is
represented by a canvas attached at the top to a cylinder which rolls
up and unrolls on an electric motor. The back of the canvas faces
outwards so that the image is only visible along the cylinder at the
point where it unrolls. This represents the present moment in passing
time which can only be made sense of when related to what has already
gone, the past, represented by the image on the back of the canvas.
The ideas contained within the time-base roller, as it is known, are
far more complicated. While the vertical represents passing, clock
time, scale along the cylinder is the 'time-base'..."

Michael is an artist, and time is a major theme of the show.

The other John Latham is known as the "grandfather of Australian
ornithology." (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Latham_%28ornithologist%29=

). If you recall, in the episode "Special," Walt was studying the
birds of Australia.

S1E14 Walt: Who cares about birds of Australia, anyway? We're *in*
Australia...Shouldn't we be studying birds of Egypt or something? ...I
picked the Bronze Cuckoo. It's funny...You wanna see?...I mean, it
doesn't look funny, just the name.

Shortly after, the bird hits the window and dies. Later, in one of
the "Missing Pieces" mobisodes, Walt was being held in Room 23 and had
apparently caused quite a few more birds to crash and die outside the
building.

The Bronze Cuckoo is known for laying its eggs in other birds' nests.
If the cuckoo egg hatches, for some reason the adoptive mother feeds
it and doesn't recognize that it's not one of her own, even if it's
much larger than her own chicks. I've theorized that the Losties are
like Bronze Cuckoo chicks, in that they're all alien starseeds who
have been "raised by another." That's why so many of them have daddy
issues. Interestingly, the one species of bird that seems to
recognize and abandon the alien cuckoo chick is the Fairy-Wren
( http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s805357.htm
). I wrote
about the "Good People" of Ireland (Fairies) who live in Otherworld,
in another thread.

If the Fuselage poster simply made up the wording of the article and
the name of the deceased, he sure did hit upon a startling set of
coincidences relating to Michael and Walt.
