They shouldn't be, but you saw their expressions when they spotted the
helicopter. Their faces lit up with joy and relief, and then
disappointment when the chopper flew on overhead. Now, maybe they
thought Sayid was on board but as you point out, they should have been
a lot more leery after what Daniel told them.
