I guess I should have known better than to expect any sort of general
consensus here!

I'm more inclined to believe that it's the island's ability, not his.
Recall that he began to lose his ability to walk early on (in the
Boone days) when he began to doubt the island.  And the fact that he's
not inclined to leave the island suggests that Locke himself believes
the same thing.

True.  Short of having access to Locke's medical records beforehand, I
would have to call this a *major* coincidence if it were to turn out
that Cooper is not Locke's father.  And it would kill the whole
Luke-A****in thing, too, and we just can't have that!
