Re: Move the Island?

You can move the island without physically doing it by changing the
amount of electromagnetic energy being produced.  In other words,
Widmore couldn't find the island until the hatch exploded and there
was a tem****ary glitch that allowed the magnetic vortex around the
island to dissipate.  The island was "visible" for a brief moment.
Change that energy level and you can't find the island again.  Try as
you might to head in the same direction but your vessel will not go
there because your instruments will be off and you won't know to what
degree.  This is why Desmond, when he tried to leave on the sailboat
using a compass, just sailed around and around the island.

Anyway, by changing the amount of energy harnessed by the island,
someone will need to stay behind and periodically push the button to
release some of the buildup like Desmond did.  I'm thinking that's why
some of the Losties are not the Oceanic 6.  They will become the new
members of Dharma and maintain the island.

At least that's my theory.
