I totally agree and it's doable.  Change the electromagnetic energy
and your vessel's instruments will be off and you will never find the
island unless you know the degree by which to make the adjustments.
Remember, the island was completely safe until the hatch exploded,
released the electromagnetic energy, and it briefly became visible.
To change it again, you'd have to control the energy, which will
require a system whereby you'll need someone there to regulate it.  Do
I see someone pu****ng that button again?  It would certainly explain
why some are going to have to stay on the island.
