Re: What Object Does Belong To John Locke?

I thought that all of those objects were Locke's and that Richard was
pissed at the choice of the knife because that would mean that a
particular future was sure to happen vs. if he chose another object.
The camera lingered on that Book of Laws and I gathered that Richard
wanted Locke to choose that, perhaps to signify that he was starting a
new community on the Island. Since Locke chose the knife, Richard
concluded that he "wasn't ready yet." However, it is interesting to
note that they never gave up on Locke, and throughout his life the
attempts were made to change the future, i.e., science camp, the
walkabout, Richard talking to adult Locke on the island, etc. They
wanted a different outcome to make Locke ready to be the person he is
in an alternative future. Remember that the Island is all about
controlling the future, so it would make sense that they would try to
change as many factors as possible to determine the future they want.
