In Thursday's episode, Sayid was told by Gault that (according to
Faraday) a bearing of 305 is the only safe way to get "to and from the
boat."
In the season two finale, Michael was told to follow a bearing of 325
*from* the island to "find rescue."
If things are stationary (as in the island is not spinning, or some
such thing) and a bearing of 325 takes you safely *away* from the
island (as it seemed to do for Michael), wouldn't it be most likely
that to get safely *to* the island you would want to follow a course
of 035?
Furthermore, if a course of 305 is the only safe way to get to *and*
from the boat, wouldn't a person have to circumnavigate the globe at
some point in order to safely take a trip from the island to the boat
and back to island again? And isn't Sayid already in the middle of
such a trip? Will he have to travel 99.9% of the way around the globe
in the Zodiac, or should we assume that they all did that on the way
in on the chopper? Or are the rules different if you're airborne,
rather than at sea level?
And doesn't the Gault/Faraday line also suggest that there's something
funky going on with the freighter, rather than (or in addition to)
whatever's going on with the island? Otherwise, why would there be
only one safe way to get to and from the *boat*? Until now, I
accepted the fact that there may only one safe way to get to and from
the *island*, but the same applies to the boat? That's very strange.
