In the very same episode in which we were led to believe Ben's mom died in

childbirth, Ben saw her on the island. The idea that it was just a vision
is 
an assumption the viewers made so if it turns out she really was there, 
don't blame the writers for not providing that evidence in a timely
manner.

As for possible reasons to believe John and Ben might share the same
mother, 
the name is a big one since tv shows don't typically assign the same name
to 
multiple characters without a purpose. Also, we've had indications that
both 
Ben and Locke were "chosen ones" and it's not unreasonable to think DNA 
might have something to do with that.

That all said, I'm not convinced that John and Ben are siblings but I
don't 
think it's an outrageous theory.
