My first thought upon seeing that it was Claire sitting in the shadowed
corner was that this meant that, yes, she was dead. Her not worrying
about Aaron ( 'He is right where he should be' - i.e. 'amongst the
living' ) made her seem that much more 'etheric' to me...to brutally
paraphrase Thornton Wilder in Our Town = 'the dead don't hang around
worrying about the living or their past lives for long'. She seemed to
now possess the tranquility that comes with having all mortal issues
stripped away...having attained a cosmic or outsider's overview, if you
will...and her concerns are now those of the other 'Jacobite ghosts' -
the well being of the island, which seems to be some sort of earthly
nexus for them. Something that allows them to manifest themselves again,
albeit briefly. Why this is so im****tant to the restless dead...well,
that remains to be seen.
