This may have been discussed the first time it happened, but now that it
has happened twice...I'm referring, of course, to the guns that won't
kill Walt's dad.
The only scientific explanation I can think of for the phenomena (
besides mind-bogglingly improbable coincidence ) lays in my, admittedly
limited, understanding of quantum theory...in that, given an infinite
multi-dimensional universe and sufficient time, anything that can happen
WILL happen - quantum theory seems to state that a person CAN walk
unharmed through a solid stone wall, just that it is exceedingly
unlikely that anyone will ever do so during the entire history of the
human race. So, that given, it is entirely POSSIBLE that no gun ever
'fired' at Michael in a fa****on that would kill him ( point-blank shot
to the head ) will ever go off...though the odds are highly stacked by
the laws of macro-physics that they will always do so - shooting him dead.
So...the 'Island' has to arrange - in some fa****on that is utterly
beyond me to even imagine - that the vastly improbable ( but not
impossible ) quantum probability that no lethal force resulting from an
act of Michael's ( remember the suicidal car wreck ), or any act directed
at Michael by anyone else, can ever result in his death...in other
words, Walt's dad is immortal until the Island says he aint, because it
is directing the quantum outcome of every potentially fatal act
regarding him...
Whoa dude! Cut-and-splice quantum outcomes...now THAT'S power!!!
