It's worth remembering that just because only six survivors have been
located, identified and labeled the "Oceanic Six" doesn't mean that
others didn't leave the island in a less-public sort of way, as well.
Desmond, like Michael, seems a likely candidate for this kind of sort
of thing. One scenario I can envision would have him heading off in
one discreet direction with Penny while the official O6 head back to
civilization and face the media circus that such an event would
create.
