You don't know that.  Jack and Juliet probably talked about Smokey at
great length....off camera.  It probably went something like this:

JACK:  That smoke monster is the most scientifically unbelievable
thing I've ever seen.  After all, I'm a man of science so it sure
impresses the hell out of me.  Don't you think we should talk about
it?

JULIET:  Yeah, we should.  Let's discuss.  Oh, and by the way, isn't
it weird that there are polar bears on this island?  And how the ****
did you people survive that plane crash in the first place?
