AFAIK, triangulation is geometry. Each of at three points measures the
strength of the signal, which means that it can emanate from a certain
radius out.The intersection of these circles provides an exact
location. You can work with less information, but you'll be making
guesses. And supposedly, the island's transmissions were opened
through Charlie's disabling the Looking Glass.
