It really is an English name; I heard mention of someone Goodspeed on
Canadian radio a few weeks ago.  But "Horace Goodspeed" is also a pun
on Howard Fast.  And although Howard Fast wrote a lot of stuff (heavy
handedly political, from my sampling), I think the allusion in this
case is to his short story, "The Martian Shop".
